Class Review

This class has been one of the most fun classes I have ever had. I love just about all of the projects that we did and the papers were fun. The only paper that I didn’t like was “who killed the Electric car” and that was because I really don’t have interest in cars. Not only that but because the video that we had to watch was a little boring in my opinion and I wasn’t taking it seriously. When you told us that we had to write a paper about it I thought it was a joke that we weren’t going to write a paper on electric cars and then when it finally hit me that you weren’t kidding that’s when I realized that I was in trouble because I didn’t know how to right a paper about an electric car. So I think that’s the only thing I didn’t like. I liked how we didn’t spend time on that Evergreen book because I found it to be rather pointless. I had learned all that stuff before so I didn’t really see the nee to work in a book about it. The Evergreen book would have been a big waste of time and it would have taken away from the project I like the most.
I really loved the blog project. That was the most fun I had doing school work ever, and I mean it. I had never written a blog before and at first I thought I would be really bad at it, but then I started writing about book and it was like I couldn’t stop. I love books and to be able to write about something that I love and get a grade on it was so much fun. I think the blog project is one that you should keep for future students. I really think that you’re a great teacher and you should keep up the good work (haha). I really liked this class and I enjoyed myself. Thanks for a great semester Mr. Hessert!!!

Book Review: The Mortal Insturments City Of Bones

Sixteen year old Clary Fray goes out to a Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder; much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and who carry strange weapons. What’s weirder is after they kill the boy the body disappears into thin air and It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing (not even a smear of blood) to show that a boy has died. Now the question that’s running through her mind is was he a boy or something else?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked. But why would demons be so interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know.
This book caught my interest the minute I looked at the cover and when I read the first page I was hooked. Clary (Clarissa) is trying to find her mother and by doing so she gets caught in a lot of other things. In this book Demons, or Downworlders, are the evil beings that pass through to our world rarely. They usually stay to their realm unless they have a reason for being in ours. Shadow hunters are the ones who kill demons and other Downworlders for the safety of themselves and others. Downworlders are the product of mixing an angel’s blood with that of humans, but only the strong can survive this process and Mundanes are what Downworlders and Shadowhunters call humans. These Demons and Shadowhunters also use “glamour”, but they don’t use it just to hide what they look like; they also hide buildings and cars, the details that are in this book pop out at you rapidly. One thing after another, from the place they live to the places they go there is not one thing left out. She makes the character surroundings seem so alive. This book made me feel all sorts of emotions, and that was just by reading. There were some points in the book where I had to put it down for awhile and regroup. I had to sit there and try to not think about what was happening in the book. There were times when I couldn’t believe how I was acting but this book definitely has a hold on me. I know that I will read it again because this book is just amazing. I don’t think a book has ever affected me as much as this one has. I can almost guarantee that if anyone were to read City of Bones right now it would be like nothing they have ever read. This book has Mystery, fantasy, drama, action, thrill and excitement. It’s like every genre in one. Cassandra Clare is an amazing author; one that I have never seen. She puts so much enthusiasm into the book and the character that you can just feel it pop off the page at you. I love her style of writing and how she takes time to make out every single detail. Another thing about this book that I like is how the whole time I was reading it I was engrossed in it. Like I said from the first page I was hooked and I love a book that can do that. I normally can’t find one that can do that off the bat, but this one was a big exception. I also love how this book keeps you guessing. You get all this information and you wonder what significance does it have, and when will it really fit in. This book has a lot of twists and turns that you won’t know where to look next. I think its amazing that Cassandra Clare can come up with this stuff and make it all fit in to be one marvelous story. I find it hard to believe that there could be someone out there who would not like this book. It’s like eating a piece of cake. I mean it looks so good and you try to eat it slowly because you want it to last longer, but you find it so hard to do that. Then you get to that last bite and you just can’t help it. You gobble it down without even a thought and then you realize it’s gone and you want another piece. That’s how this book is. It makes you crave more. Cassandra Clare is an amazing individual who is an inspiration to me. I believe that now she has become my favorite author, and this book will definitely get readers minds jumping.

Descriptive Essay: Beauty and Beast

Recently, I got the chance to see a play that was amazing. It was at Maine East that I witnessed the beauty that is Theater. I walked into the dimly lit auditorium not knowing what to expect. The place was pretty full. There were people everywhere, tall and short people lined the aisles trying to find their seats; there were little heads poking out from the tops of some seats. The kids were looking around amazed by the set. I was hoping they would enjoy the show like I hoped I would. I walked through the crowd of people blocking the aisles to find my seat. I had a fairly good view of the stage from where I was sitting. I was off to the left of the auditorium in the 6th or 7th row. I couldn’t wait for the show to start. I was twitching I was so excited. At the time the only thing on the stage was the front of the castle.
When the show started it got really quite and the attention was on the old beggar woman who was talking to the prince. The beggar was short and wore old tattered clothes. She seemed frail. The Prince stood proudly and tall pointing at her to go away. At that moment she literally rose off of the floor and she was then dressed in a beautiful white gown that shown like diamonds. She waved her glittering wand and “transformed” the prince into a hideous beast. The light that shown down on him was a white light and it showed his horrific features. His hair was shaggy and long and his face was looked like a beast, hideous, not like a human. At that point some kids screamed and quivered. Parents had to hold their children. One person had to leave because the site scared him. The stage then went black. Everyone that came out on stage next was dressed very vibrantly. Smiles were spread across their faces as they sang a song.
When they showed the castle I was mesmerized. I had never seen anything like it. The craftsmanship was beautiful. The walls looked like they were made of brick, gray, cracked brick. It gave the castle an old look. It made it seem like the castle had been around for a long time. It stood very tall, maybe 7 feet or higher. The curtains looked tattered and torn as if they were old or someone had ripped them. They were red and long. They draped to the ground, they also had a dingy look to them. It seemed like if you blew on them dust would cover everything around them. I could tell that whoever worked on this set really put a lot of time and effort into it.
In the next scene when they showed Belle’s room they rolled a bed out on stage and a dresser (which was a character). The lighting was dim and made her room look dingy as if no one had been there for a long time. She sat on the bed a wept. It was one of the most realistic things I had seen. She really seemed like she was crying and that she had lost something dear to her. The emotion in her tone when she talked showed me that she was really playing the part. Her hair was brown and in a pony-tail, and she wore a blue dress with an apron in front. She really looked like Belle in my eyes. She stood up straight; she appeared to have good posture.
Toward the end of the play when the Beast and Gaston had their fight it was pretty intense and exciting. They both seemed like they were really into it. It seemed like they were really fighting for something. The beast was wearing his long dark and mysterious cape while Gaston ore his hunter outfit, which was orange and green. Gaston had a menacing look on his face. He looked like he wanted to kill.
The scene where the beast was thought to be dead and belle was kneeling beside him was a very intense moment. She seemed to really be broken up. I felt like I was going to cry. The emotion in her voice carried over and I could feel it myself. He floated up into the air and he lost his ugliness and became a handsome prince. At that point I felt like crying because it was a happy moment. The smiles on the cast faces beamed with joy as the all became people again. The emotion that filled that auditorium that day brightened me up. That play had such an effect on me that I will never forget it. When I look back on it I can’t help but smile because I really believed that the play was real. It seemed like I was there at the castle and it all was real. I don’t think I ever saw a play like that in my life. Everyone seemed so devoted to what they were doing. To be able to portray such characters so well must have taken a lot o f time and effort and it carried through. Every minute of it was believable and enjoyable.
The set itself was phenomenal and the performance was even better. That is one night I will never forget.

Definition Essay: Happiness

To me happiness is having people in your life that care about you a great deal. It’s also having someone that you can care for. I think at this point I have happiness. To be able to look at someone and you can’t help but smile is a great feeling. To be able to smile genuinely is happiness. I suppose smiling would define happiness in my opinion.
Happiness is being in an environment where you feel most comfortable. Being in a place where you feel like you can do anything and accomplish everything. This environment fills you with the best emotion possible. You feel confident and you’re up for the challenge.
Happiness is one thing that I think no one can live with out. Happiness is the thing that holds most people together; at least it does that for me. It keeps me calm when I’m angry and it helps me to deal with ignorant people I met as I go throughout my day. Whenever I’m feeling down I just think of all the things that have made me happy and I know that they’ll never change.
Happiness is memories. It’s the pieces of your life that make you who you are and the parts that you don’t want to forget. In life there are many things and many people who are going to try to bring you down, but happiness is what everyone needs to hold to otherwise there’s no point in living. Holding on to the memories that you have are going to bring happiness, especially if you’re with someone who made you feel special.
The first time I ever though about what happiness meant to me was when I met Carter. She was in my P.E. class and she never judged me. It was weird I had never talked to her, but for some reason we seemed to click. I remember smiling so much around her and she made me laugh so hard. Every time I was with her my troubles just seemed to float away. I knew then that we would be great friends and I knew that I had found my happiness.
Happiness is hard to come by. It’s something that makes you as a person want to strive for nothing but the best in your life. It’s the fuel that keeps you going throughout the day; the drive that makes you want to achieve great things. It’s what everyone needs to survive in a world as cruel as ours. It’s everything that I wanted more. With out happiness I don’t know how anyone could survive. I know I couldn’t and I’m glad I don’t have to.

Narrative Essay

Narrative Essay

Lately things haven’t been going to well for me. There have been a lot of problems in my life in this past month. See I have this friend who decided to stop talking to me for a reason I was not aware of. All I know is that we weren’t talking. It annoyed me to death. We had been friends for 5 years and then one day we weren’t.
I was invited to hang out with him on his 18th birthday. The funny part about it was that his brother had to invite me. I was use to it though. He never talked to me on the phone. I met him at the mall and I found out that he had invited some of his friends as well. His friends don’t really get along with me and I really don’t care for them. His attention was primarily on them and I was just sitting there. I came for his sake and that was the way he treated me. It made me mad. I was talking to his brother and cousin who weren’t interested in his friends so it helped to pass the time. They all wanted to go to the arcade to play some games. I hate the arcade and it seemed that he had forgotten that because at that point he looked at me and said so what are you gonna play. I just looked at him and replied “nothing.” So while everyone else played there games I sat and watched. After 30 minutes of sitting I had enough so I left.
I suppose it was wrong of me to leave without saying bye or anything like that but I was mad. I walked around the mall for awhile and I eventually saw someone I knew so I hung out with him for a while. About 30 minutes later I get a call from the birthday boy but I didn’t answer. It just seemed like he just noticed I wasn’t there because they were leaving or something. It didn’t seem to me that he actually cared where I went just that I wasn’t there. Afterwards I went to my friend’s house and told her what happened and of course she agreed with me.
The next day at school 4th period I went to government and birthday boy ending up being in my class so I said hey to him and he really didn’t respond. I shrugged it off and didn’t give it another thought, but the next day I heard from one of my friends that he was mad at me because of the birthday thing. I thought it was quite childish. I mean who would be willing to throw away 5 years of friendship for one missed birthday? I couldn’t believe it. I was so angry I decided to tell people I knew about what happened, to get their feedback on the situation, and they all agreed with me.
It went on for about a week. We didn’t say a word to each other and it was awkward, for me at least. I dreaded going to 4th period because I knew he would be there, and the worst part about it was that he never shut up. Anytime there was a chance to talk he would take the opportunity. So I had to sit there and listen to him talk to other people. At that point the sound of his voice irritated me. I just wanted to turn around and tell him to shut up or strangle him, but I didn’t do either of those things 1. because I didn’t want him to know that us not talking was bothering me and 2. I didn’t want to get carted off to jail.
It was Friday and I went to sleep over at my best friend’s house, Carter. I had been telling her about the situation all week and I couldn’t take it anymore. One of my friends always told me I should put up a myspace bulletin because I never do so I took the chance. I wrote and wrote about how much it bugged me and about how unfair it was that this was happening. It helped to get out my frustration. I just wanted everyone to know. I wrote the bulletin, posted it and went to sleep.
The next day I went on myspace and I saw that I had all of these messages. People agreed with me. One of my friends that I haven’t talked to in a while asked me if I needed him to take care of it. It made me feel a little better to know that all these people agreed. That would mean I was right. I went home and Saturday and smiled at the situation. I thought about and I decided that I shouldn’t care. He didn’t deserve my friendship if that’s what he did with it. I dint need this drama and I didn’t need him either.
That Thursday, I went to carter’s house again and I checked my myspace because she always makes me do so. I had a new message and I was form birthday boy. He complained about how it was my fault and it was rude of me to leave. So I wrote back and told him off. We wrote back and forth until he finally said he was sorry and he didn’t mean to hurt me and that he had been having a rough time and he took out his anger on me. I took the apology of course because I had missed his company.
I didn’t dread that class the next day and in fact I don’t dread it now. Everything between us is great. I mean I don’t think our relationship will ever be the same, but it’s better than not talking to him.

New Moon

For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself and that’s Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella could ever have imagined. Edward has rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire and death once before, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may be just beginning.
This book is the second in the Twilight installment and it is definetly worth the read. In this book Bella(the main character) must go through a lot of things that she never tohught she would have to go through. I would say what it is but it would ruin the story for those how are in the processes of reading it or will be reading it. Stephanie Meyer really steps up her game in with this book. I think her first book (Twilight) was an amazing read that had me connecting with bella in a heart beat, but in this book it was like an emotional roller coaster for me. This book will have you guessing. I especially liked this book because it let me see that bella is not perfect and she doesn’t always get what she wants. I know that Bella is not ment to be portrayed as this peson who gets everything that she desires but that’s the way it always happens. So she’s lucky I suppose, but I love the fact that she is finally filling the shoes of a real person. In Twilight I thought of Bella as lucky, but I never said to myself “wow is that possible”, but now that it seems things for Bella arent going as planned I can finally say maybe this is areal girl and maybe Stephanie Meyer wanted Bella to connect with young girls. Life is not perfect and it’s not what it seems and bella will inderstand that in this book. I still think Stephanie Meyer is one of the best authors and I am glad that I picked up this series. She just constantly amazes me with all of the detail and the thought that she puts behind these characters. One thing that Stephanie Meyer has taught me is to never let a dream go without thought, and I never will.

Disney's Enchanted

An animated fairy tale meets modern, live-action comedy in this Disney film Enchanted. Giselle, the beautiful maiden who lives in the forest in Andalasia, dreams about finding her happily ever after. Not to long after she meets the Charming Prince Edward and when she thinks life couldn’t get any better she is sent down a magical well and finds herself in reality, the gritty streets of Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't seem to have happily ever after Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But soon she befriends a divorce lawyer, Robert, who isn't so sure that her prince is coming to rescue her.

With a fine cast and fun in-jokes, Disney's Enchanted is sure to cast a spell over both children and adults. It begins with a 2-D animation sequence that’s surrounded by dozens of cute animals, Giselle (voiced and later played by Amy Adams) sings about her desire to find her one true love. Meanwhile, a handsome prince (James Marsden) overhears her, and they meet and fall in love. In many Disney movies, this is where the story ends, but Enchanted is just starting out on its journey. The prince's wicked stepmother (Susan Sarandon) can't stand to lose her throne, so she pushes Giselle down a well, and the beauty ends up in the real world. That’s when the live-action starts and Giselle lands in the middle of Times Square in New York City. Her optimism and perkiness put her at odds with the New Yorkers she encounters, but she gets help from a divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) as she waits for her prince to rescue her. This movie also includes a lot of other Disney movies such as Sleeping beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Bambi. At first I thought that this movie was going to be stupid. I never thought that a move that went form 2-D to 3-D would be any good, but then I went to see it in theaters with a friend and I enjoyed it so much. I couldn’t wait for it to come out on DVD and now I own it. Enchanted is one of the cutest movies I have ever seen. I couldn’t help but smile throughout the whole thing. I think it was a nice twist to Disney and I’m hoping for a second one as well. The songs in this movie are also a nice way to tell the story. I especially love how the directors made references to other Disney movies. I thought that was a fun and inventive way to connect Giselle to other fairy tales. One of my most favorite character sin the story is Pip. Pip is a chipmunk that goes after Giselle when she is cast down the well. I think he is so cute and the voice actor in my opinion is very talented. The way the script is written and the characters are portrayed is brilliant. The character who i don't like so much is Queen Narissa's evil henchmen Nathaniel. He tries everything he can so Prince Edward can't Giselle. I will admit though he is pretty funny. One of the characters is named Prince Edward (making a reference to prince charming) is one of the most naive of characters. He has lived in Andalasia all his life, but unlike Giselle, he doesn’t know how to cope with the real world. He gives sense of humor to the story, and Giselle of course is just the cutest of them all. I love how she moves. The way she moves her hands as if she doesn’t know how to hold them and she’s always making movements. She believes in love so much and the power of true loves kiss she says “is the most powerful thing in the world”. All in all I loved this movie and I give it a 10!

The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who may be more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go especially the handsome, infuriating, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down Ex-Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil and also her father.
To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children and when the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul Sword, is stolen, the Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace.
This book is the sequel to City of Bones and it is as amazing as the first. In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare manages, again, to lure me back into the grip of New York City's Downworld. This time love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation. This book gave me chills as I read it. I found myself becoming more and more connected to the characters as I read further and further. Cassandra Clare really goes into depth with these characters and their emotions. It is proven that this book is a definite page turner and will keep you interested. I was very interested at the beginning and by the end I was more interested than I ever thought possible. There were times when I was reading this book that I had to close it and put it down for awhile because the events that were unfolding were having a great effect on me. I would literally put it down and just sit there and think on it or I would get up and occupy myself with something else for. Clary, the main, character is faced with even bigger challenges this time around because now she actually is a shadowhunter who has to learn how to deal with the world around her and all of its little secrets, and all she really wishes for is to be normal again. I think it’s kind of sad because she was used to the life that she lived and now she has to go though these life altering experiences and she’s only 16. It’s not just that though it’s also the fact that her mother, the only real parent she’s ever had is in some kind of coma and she doesn’t know how to help her. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do in that kind of situation and it kind of makes me think about my life. My mom is the only real parent that I have ever had and if something weird like that happened to my mom I don’t know how I would survive. I think Clary is a very strong girl and she’s someone that people could look up to. I know that she is a fictional character and she will never show up at my doorstep and I won’t be able to talk to her, but I still feel like people could strive to be more like her. I know I will. Another person in this book that influences me is Jace and that’s because he never gives up. He is always willing to protect people that are close to him and I just want to be able to do that too. I know it may sound strange, but truthfully that’s the way I feel. I have really connected with this series and I am so excited to read the next book. Cassandra Clare is now my favorite author and I can not wait until the 3rd book (City Of Glass) to come out March 29th 2008.

I was googling Holly Black’s name (author of Tithe) and this book came up. She had commented it on the front cover. I had been meaning to check it out from the library but I never had time to go, so when I saw it at the bookfair I had to buy it. This book caught my interest the minute I looked at the cover and when I read the first page I was hooked. The Chronicles of Faerie: The Hunter's Moon

When Gwenhyvar arrives in Ireland to visit her cousin Findabhair, she expects to see the sights. Gwen can’t wait for their backpacking trip, which will take them to sites of the fairy lore. What neither cousin knows is that it's the summer of the Hunter's Moon, a dangerous time for mortals to meddle in the kingdom of Faerie. The girls camp out, and deep in the night Finn (Findabhair) is kidnapped by the handsome Faerie king. In Gwen's quest to save her cousin, across beautifully evoked settings of modern-day and mystical Ireland, the spunky heroine's biggest challenge may be convincing Finn she needs to be saved!
I actually came across this book by accident. I was in Walden books in Golf Mill (may it rest in peace) and I saw this book. It was about faeries and I had just finished reading Ironside (the third installment to Tithe) and I thought it might be interesting, so I went to the library and checked it out. The author, O.R. Melling, has a very different way of looking at faeries and how they live. There is also the fact that this story takes place in Ireland where as the setting of Tithe is in America. In the book she uses the places in Ireland as well as the language to make the reader feel like they are in the actually setting. Gwen (the main character) has to travel through Ireland to find Findabhair and the faeries. Along the way she meets some interesting characters and people who help her on her quest to get her cousin back. This book really interested me because the Gwen is an ordinary teenager who gets mixed up in faerie games and rituals. It kinda makes me wonder if things like this actually happen, where people who are minding their own business happen to stumble upon things that they aren’t supposed to no about or that they never even believed in from the start. I think it would be cool to have faeries living in this world and ordinary people just can’t see them because the put “glamour” on themselves. Glamour is what the faeries call it when they use magic on themselves to hide what they really look like from humans. Only people who believe in faeries can see them for what they really are. The detail in this book is also amazing. It made me feel like I was in Ireland and now I kinda wanna go there to see if it’s what I pictured it to be like. This book is really interesting and I will be reading the others that go with the series.

The Demonata

Grubbs Grady is an average kid. He’s A bit bigger and slyer than a lot of boys his age), but nothing special. He leads an ordinary life, and expects it will always be that way. But when his parents and sister behave strangely, Grubbs decides to stick his nose in their business his entire world is thrown into chaos. He discovers that demons are real, and that terrible things can happen right in front of your eyes.
This series is still being written by none other than Darren Shan. After I read The Cirque Du Freak series (Saga of Darren Shan) I wondered what other books Darren Shan had written and I came across this series. I was looking in the back of the last Saga book and it was advertising a series called the Demonata and it was written by Darren Shan. I couldn’t believe it, and I was so excited to see if this would interest me, so I picked it up and I loved it. From beginning to end this series is filled with excitement and detail. This series has nothing to do with vampires like the last series he wrote but it has to do with demons and the parallel universe that coincides with our world. Demons, which are the main evil in this book, are these hideous creatures that roam around their own realm awaiting a strong enough demon (or a human) to open a portal to our world, the human world. There are also these demons that are referred to as Demon master. They are the strongest of demons. They are the ones that command the demon realm. Other demons pay respect to them by becoming their followers. These followers are known as familiars. Familiars are like the demon masters lackeys. They follow around the demon master and do his bidding. The strongest Demon Master goes by the name of Lord Loss. He has no sympathy for anyone and feeds on the sorrow of humans. He is the first demon that Grubbs Grady (the main character) ever meets. Much like Darren Shan, in the Saga of Darren Shan, Grubbs is faced with a lot of life altering decisions at a young age. I think Darren Shan is a wonderful author who has a great imagination for the “weird” and that’s one of the reasons I find his work so interesting. This series is just bursting with detail. When I read something like this I feel as though the demons themselves are going to pop out of the pages. It makes me feel like the characters truly exist, and that really gets to me. I just can’t believe that a person can have that kind of effect on someone. Being able to make someone else feel the emotion of what you have written on paper amazes me. I really like this series and I am still reading it at the moment. I think that it’s a challenge to make others believe so much in the characters that you create and make them feel like they are part a story. That is a true talent in my eyes.

Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale

Kaye is a sixteen year old wanderer. She's fierce and independent, and travels from city to city with her mother's rock band until an attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home. There in New Jersey, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms. It's a struggle that could very well mean her death.
I, myself had never been into faeries until I read this book. A friend of mine told me to pick it up so I went to the library and checked it out. I kind of laughed at myself. It was a book about faeries, but it was a book about faeries in modern day. That fact alone slightly intrigued me. I began to read it and thought how stupid, but a couple of pages later I thought to myself that this book was becoming quite interesting and I couldn’t put it down. I was surprised at how much this book was affecting me; how I had to keep reading and reading. I think what made it more enjoyable to me was the fact that it was something I knew nothing about. I knew absolutely nothing about faeries, except that they were supposed to be little and cute like Tinkerbell. The funny part about it was that these faeries were nothing like that. There were some that were life size and some of them looked incredibly nasty. The way that
Holly Black writes is amazing. She doesn’t sugar coat anything or any aspect of the book. Kaye (the girl in the book) Lives a harsh life full of many problems and she doesn’t live in the nicest of places. There is not one detail that Holly Black leaves out about how rugged things are or what Kaye (as a maturing girl) goes through. Yes, the book has faeries in it, but there is so much more to the book then faeries. This book relates to teens in a way that other books don’t, and for you guys who think this book is just for girls your wrong. One thing that Holly Black does is switch up the character views. One chapter will be in one characters point of view, while the other will be in a totally different characters point of view. So it could be in a girls point of view and a guys the next. This book really is a great read. It will keep you interested guaranteed.

The Saga Of Darren Shan

Darren Shan's an ordinary schoolboy, until he and his best friend Steve get tickets to the Cirque Du Freak, a bizarre freak. In the midst of the ghoulish excitement, true terror raises its head when Steve recognizes that one of the performers, Mr.Crepsley is in fact a vampire! This series follows Darren Shan whose life takes a turn for weird when he is faced with having to live a life of a vampire.
I really enjoyed reading this series. It consists of 12 books and the first one is becoming a movie and coming to theaters this year. I know that 12 books may seem like a lot but they are all good reads. Darren Shan (the author) knows how to keep you interested from one book to the next. I really enjoyed reading these books very much. The details are so thorough that it seems like the characters are indeed real. When I read the books I felt like I was a part of the action because of the details. They were so vivid, I swear I was there and I was relating to the characters and feeling their emotions without even thinking about it. That’s what really gets me hooked. To be able to “be there” is an amazing feeling. To me it seems like at any moment the characters are going to pop off the page and whisk me away with them. That’s one thing I like about reading and these books do just that for me. So once again if you’re into fantasy and thriller you should pick up this series by Darren Shan.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

Twilight is a book about vampires and a teenage girl that falls in love with one of them. It’s a book that could sweep you off your feet. That’s exactly what it did for me. This book is constantly filled with exciting events that will keep you intrigued. I really like this book not only because it’s a fantasy and I’m into that sort of thing but because it’s about vampires and I love vampires. The thought of having people in Maine East that could possibly be vampires and they could be roaming around in the halls at this very moment is an exciting thought. I really do believe that there are people out there that aren’t like everyone else or me for that matter. I just wish that maybe there could be people out there that are like the Cullen’s. In the book The Cullen’s are vampires but they don’t believe in killing humans to feed, instead they try to coexist with humans and live normal lives. I think it would be neat to meet people like this if there were any out there, and just maybe if they do exist then they will let themselves be known to us…..if only right? Well I don’t know all in all I think this a great read and anyone who is into fantasy should pick it up right now. It'll take your breath away.
