The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

When sixteen year old Clary Fray goes out to a Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder; much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and who carry strange weapons. What’s weirder is after they kill the boy the body disappears into thin air and It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing (not even a smear of blood) to show that a boy has died. Now the question that’s running through her mind is was he a boy or something else?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked. But why would demons be so interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know.
I was googling Holly Black’s name (author of Tithe) and this book came up. She had commented it on the front cover. I had been meaning to check it out from the library but I never had time to go, so when I saw it at the bookfair I had to buy it. This book caught my interest the minute I looked at the cover and when I read the first page I was hooked. Clary (Clarissa) is trying to find her mother and by doing so she gets caught in a lot of other things. In this book Demons, or Downworlders, are the evil beings that pass through to our world rarely. They usually stay to their realm unless they have a reason for being in ours. Shadow hunters are the ones who kill demons and other Downworlders for the safety of themselves and others. Downworlders are the product of mixing an angel’s blood with that of humans, but only the strong can survive this process. Then there are Mundanes. Mundanes are what Downworlders and Shadowhunters call humans. These Demons and Shadowhunters also use “glamour”, but they don’t use it just to hide what they look like; they also hide buildings and cars, the details that are in this book pop out at you rapidly. One thing after another, from the place they live to the places they go there is not one thing left out. She makes the character surroundings seem so alive. This book made me feel all sorts of emotions, and that was just by reading. There were some points in the book where I had to put it down for awhile and regroup. I had to sit there and try to not think about what was happening in the book. There were times when I couldn’t believe how I was acting but this book definitely has a hold on me. I know that I will read it again because this book is just amazing. I don’t think a book has ever affected me as much as this one has. I can almost guarantee that if anyone were to read City of Bones right now it would be like nothing they have ever read. The book has Mystery, fantasy, drama, action, thrill and excitement. It’s like every genre in one. Cassandra Clare is an amazing author; one that I have never seen. I believe that now she has become my favorite author, and this book will definitely get readers minds jumping.
